  Stubbs, the Cat has been the Mayor of Talkeetna town of Alaska (USA) for more than 15 years. It so happened in 1997 that Lauri Stec, the manager of Nagley's General Store, found Stubbs in a box full of kittens in her parking lot which were being given away by the owner; Stec chose Stubbs because he did not have a tail. As per records, Stubbs was born on 12 April 1997, and it was elected as the mayor of Talkeetna town of Alaska on 18 July 1997.

   

   

   

  A popular rumor states that Stubbs was elected following a successful write-in campaign by the voters of the town who did not like the human candidates. However, the tiny town did not have any real mayor, so there was no question of election. Talkeetna is a "historical district", the mayoral post being more symbolic than functional. Stubbs, the Cat is elected as a honorary mayor to attract tourists. Interestingly, this feline mayor became a celebrity in Talkeetna, increasing tourism for the town. The general store, which acts like the Mayor's office of Stubbs has been flooded with cards and letters, drawing dozens of tourists each day wanting to see him. What more, Mayor Stubbs has more than 31, 000 followers on his Facebook account, and as a perk, every afternoon, Stubbs gets to drink water out of a wineglass laden with catnip (a fragrant herb).
