Don't try to impress the committee!
Don't write what you think the teachers on the committee want to hear. They just want to get to know you, to read an essay that really expresses who you are. Don't try to be someone else. An essay written by someone else that you appropriate will automatically disqualify you. At the same time, it is important that your voice is heard behind the text. Usually essays written in a formal style, with long, textbook-like sentences, without a personal note, will not make you stand out.
Choose the right tone!
Don't brag, don't complain, don't humiliate yourself and don't look for excuses or justifications. You're a young

Don't write essays on common themes that other applicants are sure to tackle. Everyone is unique in their views. This uniqueness should come through in your essay.
A common requirement, such as describing relevant experiences in your life or motivating your interest in a particular field, should not attract a typical, formal response. Teachers on assessment boards generally find that the most boring essays are those that talk about experience gained through various activities during high school, already presented in the CV attached to the application. These young people miss the opportunity to tell the admissions committee something that sets them apart from the rest of the applicants. You realize that most of the applicants had interesting and meaningful experiences during high school, but everyone perceived these experiences in their own way.
