Also called Cocos nucifera or “nut-bearing”, coconut palm tree grows from 12 to 24 meters tall. Its fruit bears white edible flesh and fresh water. Coconut palms live on saline coastal regions. Why is it called coconut palm? It was the early Spanish conquistadors who named it coconut because “coco” means “monkey face”, attributing on the three indentations which look like eyes on the hairy nut resemble the head and face of a monkey.
