The idea that every child should attend college was a good one. But like many good ideas, when put into practice it just doesn't work the way we think it will. Not every student is ready for the rigors of college. Not every student is interested in intellectual pursuits that colleges should be providing. Therefore, over the past 30 years we have dumbed down so many colleges as to make a college degree almost meaningless.
