. -- Robby Shelton is happy to be back at the Barbasol Championship
while the worlds top players are off in Scotland at the British
Open.Third last year while still in college at the University of
Alabama, Shelton is making his second PGA Tour start as a professional.
He missed the cut in the FedEx St. Jude Classic in his pro debut. It was
an exciting week, Shelton said Wednesday. I played really well. I just
came with a lot of expectations, I guess, I just wanted to play well.
But being an am is kind of different than being a pro.I knew I played
really well. Its not always that easy. But it gave me a lot of
confidence going into college golf for the year and it definitely gave
me some confidence to rattle some wins and make the decision a lot
easier to turn pro after my junior year.Play begins Thursday on Grand
Nationals Lake Course. The winner will get a two-year exemption and a
spot in the PGA Championship, but will not be exempt for the Masters. Its
just a little different in the sense of travel and doing a lot of stuff
on my own, Shelton said about professional life. But besides that, I
mean, just wait to hear from each tournament because Im on sponsor
exemptions, so its just kind of a last-minute thing, which is difficult.
It keeps you on your toes, youre always practicing, just hoping for the
word. Besides that, its really not much different.Shelton is one of
many players with Alabama ties, joining Jason Bohn (Alabama), Bud Cauley
(Alabama), Dicky Pride (Alabama), Michael Thompson (Alabama), Bobby
Wyatt (Alabama), Matt Gilchrest (Auburn), Blayne Barber (Auburn),
Michael Johnson (Auburn), Will Wilcox (UAB) and Heath Slocum (South
Alabama).Im excited to be here, Barber said. Its always nice to sleep in
your own bed and play a tournament.Johnson is making his pro debut. This
is a great opportunity for me, Johnson said. Im very happy that I got a
sponsor exemption, very happy, pleased, all of the above.Gilchrest, a
rising senior for Tigers, is playing in his first pro event. For me, its
like a dream come true for me to get to play my first PGA Tour event,
and even better here where we have a college tournament, play here every
so often, Gilchrest said. Its just down the road from my apartment. Ive
got a lot of family from Dallas and itll be a really special
week.Wilcox was second last year behind Scott Piercy. Its familiar
surroundings and Id love to get the magic again like I had last year,
Wilcox said. Its going to be cool to have all my family down again. Ive
played good in Alabama. So yeah, I mean, Ill just see if we can get it
going again and maybe have another exciting weekend.Piercy is skipping
his title defense to play at Royal Troon.Kyle Reifers, at No. 42, is the
highest player in the FedEx Cup standings in the field. Bohn, at No.
97, has the highest world ranking.Hunter Mahan is playing for the first
time since the birth of his third child, Hazel.

. - After leading the Saints to a fourth playoff appearance in five
seasons, Drew Brees expressed confidence in the direction of his team
and, perhaps more importantly, showed a willingness to listen to
contract proposals if the team needs his help getting under the NFLs
salary cap.

Brisbane remain in the hunt for a top-four finish after
stunning NRL leaders Melbourne with a dominant 26-16 victory at AAMI
Park.Looking to atone for a crushing 48-6 loss at the hands of the Storm
in round 17, the Broncos produced some of their best football of the
season on Friday night to secure their fourth-straight win, moving level
with the Cowboys and Bulldogs in fourth spot on the table. Two
first-half tries to centre Tom Opacic set the tone for Brisbane, who
dominated possession in the opening term and withheld a determined Storm
outfit after the break to ensure the race for the top four goes down to
the wire. The visitors clicked into gear from the outset, showing
sublime ball-handling skills to stun the home side twice in early
stages.Sam Thaiday celebrated his 250th NRL game in style thanks to a
stunning one-handed offload that caught the Storm defence off-guard to
set up Opacics opening try after three minutes.Jordan Kahus acrobatic
effort in the right corner doubled his teams advantage five minutes
later.A rare foray deep into Brisbane territory resulted in Melbourne
second-rower Tohu Harris reaching over from close range after 26 minutes
to halve the early deficit. But the visitors struck back with a Kahu
penalty goal before cashing in on Marika Koroibetes dropped ball deep in
Storm territory, allowing Opacic to score his second four-pointer with
two minutes left in the half.Melbourne looked more energetic after the
break but could not wear down Brisbanes defence. The Broncos made them
pay with a polished back-line move that sent Darius Boyd over for a 20-4
lead after 55 minutes.Ben Hampton appeared to breathe life into the
Storm when he crossed for his first try of the season with 15 minutes
left. But fortune favoured Brisbane when a kick from broken play rolled
into the Storms in-goal area, with Cooper Crronk slipping in pursuit to
allow Jai Arrow to wrap up the match. Yeezy Boost 350 a Vendre.
he Storm could have secured the minor premiership with a victory, but
now face the prospect of a winner-takes-all clash with Cronulla for the
JJ Giltinan Shield in the final round, provided the Sharks beat the
Roosters on Saturday night.Brisbane coach Wayne Bennett was pleased to
see his side take control of the match from the beginning. Our start was
spot on - it had to be, said Bennett. They (Melbourne) always start
well. You dont want to give them momentum and the boys were on from the
kickoff. They kind of carried on from where they left off against
Canterbury, so that was good.Bennett also praised the pressure and
attitude his players applied right across the ground.Captain Corey
Parker expressed pride in Brisbanes performance against the
ladder-leading Storm. We had a game plan that we thought, if we could
execute, wed be right in it, said Parker. Its just really satisfying to
be able to do that, particularly against a good side at (their)
home. They stuck it to us and it was a good game of footy going on but
1-17 turned up and we got the job done. While full of praise for the
victors, Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy lamented another lethargic
showing from his charges after similar recent first-half performances
against South Sydney and Canberra.I just thought we were really poor
defensively in the first half, said Bellamy. Especially at the start of
the game, they scored two tries in the first seven or eight minutes. That
put us behind the eight ball, to be quite honest, added Bellamy. We
didnt really improve too much defensively in the first half. Our second
half was a lot better but, by then, the horse had bolted.
